BCS FORTRAN SPECIALIST GROUP

The next meeting of the British Computer Society's

Fortran Specialist Group will be held on Thursday, 28

November, 1991 from 12.30pm to 4.30pm at BCS, 13 Mansfield

Street, London. This meeting will start with a Buffet Lunch

and the formal meeting will commence at 2pm.

Please note that this meeting is not the usual format

for meetings of the Group. The afternoon session will be

normal business and will include a report from X3J3

representatives followed by an informal discussion on

Fortran 90.

Please bring this notice to the attention of any col-

leagues likely to be interested: we particularly welcome

newcomers to the Group whether members of BCS or not.

NOVEMBER 1991 NEWSLETTER

   DATES OF FORTHCOMING MEETINGS

The Group attempts to book dates for its meetings up to a year

in advance but with the uncertainty of the London BCS venue we

have only booked dates till the middle of 1992. It is still

uncertain whether next year's meetings will be held at 13

Mansfield Street or at No. ll but our next meeting (see below)

will be at No. 13. The dates of the forthcoming meetings with

provisional titles are:

Thursday, 28th November, 1991   Buffet Lunch

Thursday, 6th February, 1992   Data Structures in Fortran

             Thursday, 14th May, 1992   AGM

THE GROUP SEEKS A NEW SECRETARY

I am finding the task of Secretary more and more difficult as

the time approaches for the change in status of my job. At

present it is likely I shall be moving away from Fortran but

nothing so far is certain. The Secretary of the Fortran Group

should be more than just a minute taker and letter writer but

is someone who can encourage and enthuse members to make a

contribution. If you think you could do the job, know some-

body who might, or would like to talk about the task, please

get in touch with me (or Mike Roth, our Chairman).

CELEBRATION BUFFET

In the August 1991 Newsletter Mike Nunn offered to arrange a

Buffet at our November meeting on Thursday, 28th November,

1991. I have only received 6 replies so far, probably not

enough to organise the Lunch. Mike does an excellent repast

and it would be a shame to let this opportunity slip by. The

proposal is to start at 12.30 with the Buffet and then have

our normal meeting starting at 2pm followed by an informal

~ discussion on Fortran 90. Another form is appended so do

please send it to me and/or come and join us on the 28th.
